Over 50 new members arrived early to take advantage of a 50% discount* for the first 50 students, first 50 staff and first 50 members of the public to sign up at the University of Kent’s brand new sports facilities which opened today.
Following an investment of £4.8million, the upgrade has seen significant expansion to the facilities on the University’s Canterbury campus, including a fitness suite full of brand new cardio equipment for general fitness, wellness and rehabilitation, and high performance training. The suite has also added an extensive range of free weights, as well as four Olympic power-lifting platforms.
A multi-purpose fitness and dance studio has also been built, to include popular Spinning, Zumba and Boxercise to the new class timetable. Alongside the sport centre facilities a new indoor tennis centre has been added.
Rob Davies, the first member of the public to sign up from Blean, said: ‘Although I’m already a member of another gym I joined Kent Sport this morning taking advantage of the special offer and to make use of the new equipment. I am very, very happy to be here – the lifting platforms are heaven!’
Graham Holmes, Director of Sport, said: ‘The greatest pleasure I could possibly have after such a long period of planning and construction is the reaction from our guests, and I have to say I am delighted with the response. Everyone has been wowed with what is now on offer, and that reaction has come from professional sportspeople, complete newcomers to exercise, and everyone in between. We really are catering for all, as our motto says: Kent Sport…for all.’
All of the new facilities are available to students, staff and members of the public. For membership information, visit: www.kent.ac.uk/sports
