Congratulations to PhD student Bochra Idris, whose research paper entitled ‘SMEs Internationalization: When Does Innovation Matter?’ has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Business Research.
Bochra is studying for a PhD in Management and is a member of the Strategy & International Business research group. Her PhD thesis explores the relationship between different types of internationalization and SMEs performance, with a focus on empirical evidence from the UK.
Her research article for the Journal of Business Research examines different types of innovation (goods, service and process), and investigates the relationship between different degrees of novelty of innovation (radical and incremental) on SMEs internationalization. The article offers an important contribution to previous scholarship on innovation and internationalization for SMEs. Evidence provided through this research led to the recommendation that in managerial practices, SMEs should view goods and innovation as an enabler and facilitator for internationalization. The research also highlighted the effects of radical innovation in enabling SMEs to export and expand their businesses abroad, the positive effect of combining two types of innovation in SME internationalization, and the potential impact that this approach would have on government policy.
This is Bochra’s second journal paper published during the course of her PhD. The first, a joint publication with Professor George Saridakis, was published in the International Business Review in June 2018.
