Alumni Summer School is back this July with opportunities to come in person or join online

Four action-packed days in July for all KBS alumni to return, reconnect, and join in discussions around current business issues impacting them.

Alumni at last year's MBA Alumni Summer School

Last year, we launched the hugely successful MBA Alumni Summer School, a series of ‘How to…’ and ‘How do…’ workshops, inviting all our MBA alumni to come back and learn for free.

Well, not only is it back for this year, but we have also extended it to four days, with the first two days open to all KBS alumni (undergrad, postgrad, MBA) and the last two days specially curated for the MBA. However, if the subject matter is relevant to their current role or workplace, any KBS alum is welcome to join us for any workshop regardless of what they studied. What’s more, all are fully hybrid, inclusive events, so there’s an option to come in person or join us online from anywhere in the world.

Co-organiser of the event, MBA Director, Debbie Kemp said: “At Kent Business School, we believe that learning is for life and events like this are so important for our alumni community. It gives them the opportunity to return to the School, reconnect and join the latest discussions around current business issues that are impacting them and their organisations. The programme is designed to be flexible around work commitments and they can join us for as many workshops as they would like. We have also planned in some social time for them to reconnect with their former classmates or make new acquaintances from different cohorts – and there will be quiet spaces available for those that need to check emails or take calls.”

This year’s programme is being delivered by a mix of resident KBS experts, visiting academics, local businesses, and alumni experts who will share their latest research and/or knowledge on a subject of interest in the current business climate. As always, this should provoke a sharing of views and experiences from the audience. We have designed the workshops to give an insight into ‘how to’ apply each subject to their business environments right now. Topics include issues around flexible working, wellness, contract law, AI transformation, health and social care, crisis management, and cybersecurity. So, something for everyone!

Anwen Cooper and Dan Corpe or Thrivall

Anwen Cooper and Dan Corpe, Co-founders of Maidstone-based Thrivall, who are delivering one of the workshops, said: “Many organisations are experiencing increasing levels of colleague burnout, stress absence and presenteeism right now, along with a complex range of other challenges relating to the recruitment, engagement and retention of people. We are delighted to have been invited to share some of our recent research and insights as part of the KBS Summer School programme this year. Our session will give support to any people-focused leaders who want to resolve these issues for their own businesses and also contribute to the bigger picture solution to the current UK business productivity, employee engagement and economic growth crises.”

Alumni networking

KBS Acting Dean, John Board urges all alumni to take advantage of this initiative saying, “As you will all have discovered by now, a degree (even from a business school as good as KBS) can never provide everything that you might need through your work lifetime. We believe in you, our alumni, and want you to continue to benefit from KBS. Because of that I am happy to invite you to participate in this year’s Alumni Summer School. We want to give you the chance to update your knowledge, to enhance the breadth of your view and, of course, to meet others in our alumni community. The world of work is ever changing and this is a fine opportunity to get together and help each other to develop and flourish in it. It will be a great few days.”
