Professor Patricia Lewis ‘Embracing Equity’ at next MBA Guest Lecture

Professor Patricia Lewis

Our exciting MBA Guest Lecture Series continues on Friday 10 March 2023, covering the important topics of diversity and inclusion with a focus on women in leadership.

This free hybrid event will run from 12.30 until 14.00 (GMT) on Zoom and in-person in the MBA Suite in Sibson. It will include no less than four esteemed guest speakers on our panel, the first being Professor Patricia Lewis.

Professor Patricia Lewis is an internationally recognised scholar working in the field of gender, management, and organisation studies for over 20 years. Her work has contributed to the development of theoretical and empirical understanding of how gender as a form of difference impacts on women’s experiences of entrepreneurship, management, and organisations.

Patricia’s research aims to make visible the way in which organisations, entrepreneurs and managers are subject to and constituted by gendered cultural norms and how such constitution contributes to the persistence of inequality.

Gender inequality is a significant societal challenge and a UN sustainable development goal, Professor Lewis has demonstrated in her research the durability of gender inequality patterns despite policy interventions. This points to the persistence of deep-seated cultural norms that reinforce disadvantage.

From mid-2017 to the end of 2020, Professor Patricia Lewis was Joint-Editor-in-Chief of Gender, Work & Organization (CABS 3) and prior to this she was an Associate Editor of the journal from 2011 to 2017. She hosted the 11th International Interdisciplinary Gender, Work & Organization Virtual Conference, Transforming Contexts, Transforming Selves: Gender in New Times, 30 June to 2 July 2021.

She is currently a member of the editorial boards of Organization and Gender in Management: An International Journal and Consulting Editor for the International Small Business Journal. Professor Lewis was elected to the British Academy of Management College of Fellows in September 2022.

Details of the other two speakers will be announced later in the week.
