Advice on Navigating Christmas Away From Home

Olayemi Ejemai an MBA Women in Leadership Scholar and current Full-Time MBA Student brought together students and external guests to discuss their own experiences of Christmas as part of our online event, Navigating your First Christmas Away from Home.

With 15 Nationalities in the MBA Class of 2021-22, this was a fantastic opportunity to share experiences, network and take away some great tips for many students who are in the without their families for the first time or might not be too familiar with the Christian festival and how it is celebrated in England.

MBA student Kelly Marie Taylor talked through the ins and outs of a traditional Christmas such as Father Christmas covering well-loved traditions such as Advent calendars, Christmas cooking and practical advice surrounding the festive period such as shop closures and public transport restrictions.

Olufunmilola Balogun, a qualified pharmacist and Nigerian current part-time MBA student shared her first experiences of the changes of culture at Christmas in the UK. She explains how it felt to be away from her family and her home country at such a time, particularly when she was unfortunately struck down with a terrible flu virus and the snowy weather was not what she was used to!
