MBA Lecture: Strategic Leadership in the Era of Digital Transformation

On Thursday 8 May 2019, over 70 businesses, academics, university staff and MBA students attended the MBA lecture on Strategic leadership in the era of digital transformation at Kent Business School.

The event was organised in partnership with The Leaders Club, a London membership organisation focusing on leaders of the future.

Speakers Nnenna Ilomechina, (Managing Director Accenture Strategy), Chris Roebuck (Honorary visiting Professor of transformational leadership at Cass Business School) and former Kent MBA student Tendayi Viki now Associate Partner for Strategyzer each shared their views on what constitutes true strategic leadership in this era of massive disruption and convergence in three truly inspirational presentations.

The speakers all had a refreshingly different approach to the theme. Nnenna shared a very personal story on finding her way in the world of corporate restructuring and developing the traits that in her opinion make a true leader: passion, grit, quick decision-making and team leadership, to name but a few.

Chris took a more general approach and argued that leaders who care – about their employees, their product or service, their customers and the impact of their business – will make good leaders in any circumstances.

Third speaker and Kent MBA alumnus Tendayi Viki, finally, validated good leadership in light of one’s ability to use innovation in growing a successful business. Many starting companies, according to Viki, put too much emphasis on a new product without looking at the underlying business model and will therefore fail. A successful leader should continuously reassess their business model and show the flexibility to change it.

Alex Bedford, Board Member of Westgate Hall, complemented Kent Business School (KBS) on its choice of speakers: ‘Absolutely brilliant – not a phrase I use lightly – and truly inspirational!’ Another attendant stated: ‘I absolutely loved this event and it has made me want to do an MBA with you!’

Kent MBA lectures take place at KBS twice a year. They give businesses the opportunity to listen to topical presentations on leadership, connect with each other and learn more about our MBA programme. Entry is free but places are limited.
