Sharing resources and experiences with academic colleagues both at Kent and beyond can support your work to diversify your materials.

Reading lists

We have compiled a collection of reading lists on Padlet, from other institutions across a range of disciplines that may also be a good starting point when thinking about making changes to your own. These are resource lists from colleagues that have already done this work and share them publicly with others outside their institution.

You can also search for your own examples, use your discipline as a keyword with “reading list”  and Diversity or decolonise as keywords in your search engine. Please feel free to add others that you find to this padlet!

If you can’t find any in your discipline then browse peer institutions for decolonising and/or diversifying work as resource lists are sometimes included in local projects.

Join networks, blogs and mailing lists to keep up to date:

Higher Education Race Action Group (HERAG) has a JISC mail list that promotes conferences, papers and other initiatives across the UK HE sector.

WONKHE , the home of higher education policy, regularly publishes blog posts on diversity in HE.

Advance HE Knowledge Hub can help you access reports, conference materials and guidance papers on the theme of equality, diversity and inclusion.

You can also search the websites of key professional organisations and academic societies representing your discipline to discover best practices. Many publish reports on EDI in the sector, promote networks for members with protected characteristics, and offer initiatives for HE to improve widen participation and outreach.

Syllabi

The Open Syllabus project collects, analyzes and shares millions of syllabi around the globe. This can help in the development of classes and associated reading lists and is searchable via discipline and country. This allows academics to identify potential diverse resources but can also highlight the predominance of Global North resources across the global academic community.

Global & specialist library collections

You can also search the catalogues of universities that have international collections, including those in Africa, Asia or South America:
