Eight Reasons to Study in Medway

Our presence in Medway is often overshadowed by the Canterbury Campus, but we at KBS like to think of it as a hidden gem.

There are many reasons why Medway should be high on your list of places to undertake undergraduate or postgraduate study. Here are just a few of them…

1. The area oozes culture

KBS Medway is based at the Sail and Colour Loft – a historic 18th-century building that has been renovated and adapted specifically for our requirements. It is set within Chatham Dockyard where Horatio Nelson joined his first ship, and nearby Rochester was a favourite haunt of Charles Dickens. Quaint, historic buildings abound, there are regular festivals and the music scene is lively to say the least!

2. It’s a doddle from London

Medway is half way between the capital and KBS’s Canterbury Campus so whether you’re travelling by road or public transport, it’s very easy to get to. From central London KBS Medway is approximately a one hour drive. By rail it’s even faster, with high-speed services reaching Chatham in just 40 minutes.

3. It’s a doddle from Canterbury, too…

During term-time a shuttle bus runs between the University of Kent’s Medway and Canterbury campuses every hour. It’s free for students and staff and runs late into the night for those wanting to make the most of either Canterbury or Medway nightlife.

4. Small in size, big on facilities

There are a range of on and off-site facilities available to you. For food and drink you have No1 Bistro, Archibald Hay Mess Café, Cargo and The Deep End. State-of-the-art teaching facilities include Medway Park sports centre, which students can use at a discounted rate. Dedicated on-site learning, personal and IT support is also continuously available.

5. Nearby accommodation

Whilst Medway makes for a great location for those who commute, it also offers fantastic living accommodation. Liberty Quays’ Modern flats are shared between five and eight students and every bedroom has an en-suite. Not only is it a short walk from the main campus, it is also located around a shopping plaza with a Tesco Express, Domino’s Pizza and Subway.

6. Share your experience with students from other universities

By taking up a course at KBS Medway you won’t just be sharing the campus with peers from the University of Kent. You will also get to meet and share experiences with students from the University of Greenwich and Canterbury Christ Church University.
