Today, at the Pickavance Lecture Theatre in RAL, we had the first meeting between students and postdocs in Harwell Campus (http://www.myharwell.com/events/phd-students-postdocs-meeting#.URExo5GP8xA).The meeting consisted in a series of short seminars given by PhD students about their research done in Harwell campus (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineer,etc.). We also had some brief talks regarding the opportunities and various services for students in RAL, and Harwell Campus in general.
Together with fellow PhD students from ISIS, Diamond, STFC Particle Physics and Research Complex we organized this event including a wide variety of science subjects, to represent the research done in Harwell. In fact our aim is to encourage the interaction between early-carrer researchers with different backgrounds. The enthusiasm (and number) of the participants seems to suggest that a student-postdoc community is more than welcome from the people working on site (not only from the student themselves ). In particular the effort to organize similar kind of events is a great way to promote interactions between early-carrer researcher who might be based across the different facilities in Harwell (unfortunately quite isolated with each other).
