A graduate seminar – by a graduate for graduates.
A graduate seminar is being given on Tuesday 12th January 2016 in ILT 2-3pm by Joel Barker. Joel is an experimental physicist from the superconductivity and magnetism group in University of Warwick.
This talk is open to all.
Title: “Relaxing muons as local probes of broken time-reversal symmetry in unconventional superconductors”.
Abstract: “The mechanism behind superconductivity has been known about and studied for more than 50 years, however, there exists a growing class of unconventional superconductors that do not fit into the conventional classification. These materials have the potential to play host to novel quantum effects, such as the formation of Majorana fermions, and thus could function as future hardware for quantum computation. This talk focuses on recent advances in the field of noncentrosymmetric superconductors, and will provide an introduction to the technique of muon spin rotation and relaxation applied to condensed matter systems.”
