Bridge the gap between Higher Education and Employment: A variety of meaningful Volunteer/Internship opportunities in Brazil.

2nd November 13:00-14:30 KLT6

ETIV do Brasil is a small NGO and registered Brazilian Association co-founded by Monique Dray, who graduated from UKC with a degree in Social Anthropology in 2014. ‘ETIV’, when read as a Portuguese word sounds much like the English word ‘achieve’ and stands for Ecotourism and International Volunteering of Brazil. ETIV do Brasil is based in the beautiful surf and fishing town of Itacare, Bahia, and its mission is to connect international volunteers with local communities to support environmental conservation and development in Brazil.

Monique will be coming in to share the wide range of volunteering opportunities offered by ETIV, which range from NGO administration, fundraising and marketing, to teaching English and working in youth development, environmental conservation, and more. Volunteers can also combine their volunteering with eco and adventure tours and cultural education classes (including Portuguese, Samba and Capoeira). ETIV also offers a complete Gap Year experience, where volunteers can spend up to 6 months volunteering with ETIV and 6 months volunteering with our partner organisation, Otra Cosa Network (OCN) – a well established NGO based on the other side of the continent on the coast of Peru.

A message from Monique: “I am really hoping to reconnect with the university and its current students, especially those in the School of Anthropology and Conservation. I know from personal experience that many are looking for an experience that’s a bit out of the ordinary; that will be memorable, challenging, eye-opening AND allow them to put their anthropology/conservation knowledge to use. I started off as a volunteer with OCN and was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity of a lifetime as Co-Founder and Assistant Director of ETIV. I want to offer the current students similar opportunities that could help them break into fields such as International Development, Conservation, Community Development, Social work and Teaching.”

While many of ETIVs projects are particularly suited to SAC students and graduates, students from all departments are welcome to attend this presentation.
