Copyright Policy

If you are using materials protected by copyright, you must comply with UK copyright legislation and the University of Kent Copyright policy and guidelines.

The University’s Copyright, Licensing and Policy Manager can answer specific questions on the use of third-party copyright materials in E-Learning.

You can find the University position on copyright created by staff and students in the Policy Statement on Intellectual Property. Amongst other policies it is important to note that this document clarifies that the University does not claim ownership of scholarly work (Appendix A 3.2), but does claim ownership over teaching materials (Appendix A 3.1).

Creative Commons licences are the most widely used type of ‘open’ licence, and they allow copyright owners to share their work freely. For information about using Creative Commons licensed media in teaching materials, please refer to our Creative Commons Resources page.
