It is with great sadness that the Law School has learnt of the death of Associate Lecturer and alumnus Dr Timothy Moorhead, who was killed in a motorcycle accident whilst taking part in qualifying for the Manx Grand Prix last weekend.
Dr Moorhead (Tim) was a well-liked and highly respected colleague and member of the Kent Law School family, who will be missed by all who knew him. Tim taught in the Law School since 2011 as a member of the Public Law 1 teaching team. He was known to many of the Law School’s undergraduate students, amongst whom he was very popular as someone who, with good humour, made the complicated area of Law he taught both accessible and enjoyable.
Tim completed much of his legal education at Kent; first achieving an LLB and subsequently an LLM in International Commercial Law at Kent. After passing the LLM with Distinction (the highest level of award at Kent), Tim was awarded a studentship for his PhD, at the University of Reading. Tim’s interest and expertise in the law of the European Union saw him publish in the area, with his first book, The Legal Order of the European Union: The Institutional Role of the Court of Justice, published by Routledge earlier this year.
Many of us were well aware of Tim’s enthusiasm for motorcycling, with likeminded colleagues happily conversing with him about his experiences, and the sport in general over the years. We are greatly saddened by the news of Tim’s passing, and it is with great fondness that we will remember Tim’s many contributions to the Law School.
