Kent Law School’s annual Skills Conference, taking place on Monday (22 October), is designed to help first-year law students achieve their fullest potential.

The Conference will be held from 10am to 4pm in Woolf Lecture Theatre.

Sessions include:

  • Effective preparation: Working hard involves making smart choices. In this session, Dr Hannah Phillips will walk you through ten key steps that will help you effectively prepare for your assessments
  • Avoiding the P word: Dr Alan McKenna will talk you through understanding the University academic discipline rules and how to successfully avoid falling foul of those rules
  • Smashing the First Year: Dr Will White shows you the best ways to gain the skills needed to Smash Your First Year!
  • 5 Steps to Career Success: Jayne Instone, Careers and Employability specialist, introduces 5 clear steps to use opportunities, enhance employability skills and create a personal profile to attract employers and ensure career success
  • Just Ask Rebooted: Come along and ask our panel your burning questions. Dr Karen Devine, Dr Will White and Hattie Peacock will be there to provide answers to your study and support-related questions.

Kent Law School Student Success Project Officer Sheree Palmer, who helped organise the conference, said: ‘This conference is a fantastic opportunity to gain essential skills which will enable students to perform to their full potential throughout their academic career and beyond. It will help with their research skills, using resources and preparing for assessments.’

Law students at Kent are taught in a supportive environment where everything possible is done to foster both their intellectual and personal development and where staff are approachable and helpful. In addition to the Skills Conference, a broad framework of support for law students at Kent is provided by (among others), the Law School’s Employability and Career Development Officer, Academic Advisers, Student Advisers and a dedicated team in the School’s Skills Hub, providing practical guidance and tailored support.
