Professor Wade Mansell has been awarded the title of Emeritus Professor in acknowledgement of more than 40 years of distinguished academic service at Kent.
Professor Mansell was first appointed as a Lecturer at Kent Law School on 1 October 1971. His new title will be conferred on him following his retirement in June.
As Emeritus Professor, Professor Mansell is likely to continue to be involved in the academic work of the Law School, where his research interests lie in public international law. He will also become an ex officio member of the University’s Court which meets once a year.
In addition to his research, Professor Mansell also supervises MPhil and PhD students whose subject matter falls within the field of critical international law.
A member of the Society of Legal Scholars, Professor Mansell is also Invited Professor at University of Paris X (Nanterre) and is a member of the Panel of Experts in the Cyprus Education Department.
During his 44 years at Kent, Professor Mansell founded and convened the LLM in International Law with International Relations both in Canterbury and Brussels. He is responsible for developing academic links with Hong Kong and China and is also jointly responsible for developing the Centre for Critical International Law.
Professor Mansell has been invited to speak across the globe, delivering keynote speeches and lectures in Amsterdam and China. He has authored many books, the latest of which, International Law, was co-authored with Dr Karen Openshaw from Kent and published in 2013.
Professor Mansell has also recently completed a fourth edition of A Critical Introduction to Law, originally written with Belinda Meteyard and Alan Thomson. It is due for publication by Routledge in June.
