Three revised editions of books for law students, authored by academics at Kent Law School, have been published this month.
Kent Senior Lecturer in Law Dr Kirsty Horsey is the co-author of the thirteenth edition of Kidner’s casebook on Torts and the fourth edition of Tort Law published by Oxford University Press and Professor Wade Mansell is the author of the fourth edition of A Critical Introduction to Law published by Routledge.
Described as an “essential companion for undergraduate tort law students”, Kidner’s casebook on Torts provides a comprehensive library of leading tort cases, annotated by the editors. Tort Law includes problem questions in each chapter to help students understand how the law works in its practical context together with downloadable annotated judgments and statutes. Both books are co-authored by Dr Horsey in collaboration with Professor Erika Rackley from Birmingham University.
Dr Horsey teaches contract and tort law to undergraduate students across all years at Kent Law School. Her research interests lie in the overlap of medical and family law, particularly in the area of assisted reproduction, and in public bodies’ liability for negligence. In 2007, Kirsty was the joint recipient of the Barbara Morris Learning Support Prize, awarded by the University of Kent for teaching excellence.
Professor Mansell’s book A Critical Introduction to Law, challenges the usual introductions to the study of law, arguing that law is inherently political and reflects the interests of the few even while presenting itself as neutral. The latest revised edition provides contemporary examples to demonstrate the relevance of these arguments in the twenty-first century.
Professor Mansell was recently awarded the title of Emeritus Professor in acknowledgement of more than 40 years of distinguished academic service at Kent. His research interests lie in public international law. A member of the Society of Legal Scholars, Professor Mansell is also Invited Professor at University of Paris X (Nanterre) and is a member of the Panel of Experts in the Cyprus Education Department.
