Fifty Years of Feminism at Kent

Fify Years of Feminism at Kent‘ is a 50th anniversary project organised by academics from the faculty of Social Sciences (including Kent Law School), to mark the important role Kent has played in the development of academic feminism.

The project, one of a number marking the University of Kent’s 50th anniversary, will celebrate past achievements at Kent, including the establishment of the first taught programme in Women’s Studies in this country.

Project co-ordinators, Senior Lecturer in Social Science Dr Anne Logan and Kent Law School Teaching Assistant Serena Natile are keen to focus on the present and the future.

Serena Natile said: ‘There will be a panel discussion (involving academics, students and activists) on ‘Feminism: where are we now’ and a conference on Gender, Austerity and Wealth organised by Dr Simone Wong from Kent Law School. There will also be a series of feminist film screenings.

‘We hope to publish a webpage, or pages, which will give details of all Kent academic and research staff who have undertaken research in the fields of gender and/or sexuality and/or feminism.

‘If you think that your research currently falls, or has fallen in the past, into this general category, we would be most pleased to hear from you.’

Those interested in getting involved in the project are asked to complete an online form by 1 September 2014.
