Critical Law TV is a ground-breaking partnership between Kent Law School and KMTV, with law students producing and presenting a series of four short TV news programmes about law for broadcast on regional and digital television.
Undergraduate and postgraduate law students keen to join the editorial and production teams are encouraged to apply by Monday 24 January 2022.
As a member of the editorial and production team, you will be trained and mentored by KMTV production professionals, journalists and creatives. KMTV broadcasts to around 250,000 homes in Kent and Medway as well as feeding into a wider UK local television network of some 13 million households.
It’s a great opportunity to:
- express your voice on important contemporary issues
- connect with the public
- learn new skills
- gain work experience
- and explore your passion for explaining how legal issues impact on day-to-day lives.
The second series of Critical Law TV will explore interesting topics such as, privacy and facial recognition software, law and sexual violence, and the up-and-coming field of environmental law.
Training will begin with an online workshop on Wednesday 2 February and will be followed by further workshops at the KMTV studios on Wednesday afternoons. Students will commence production work with their KLS academic and KMTV mentor shortly after their initial training session.
Filming will take place at the KMTV studio in Medway, on the Canterbury campus, and out-on-location in Kent. The finished product will be broadcast in April on KMTV and online media platforms.
Who can apply?
We want to build a student editorial and production team that reflects the diversity of KLS. We need students with a wide range of different talents, personalities and interests. If you can commit to team working, are willing to carry responsibility and put in the hours, and you feel enthusiastic about shaping the second series of Critical Law TV – we want to hear from you!
Whether you are camera shy or an extrovert, there are lots of roles to choose from and you will receive training for roles, such as programme planning, script writing, storyboarding, filming, interviewing, researching for broadcast, directing content, present to camera and editing.
How to apply
To apply email Dr Emma Topham Editor-in-Chief and Lecturer in Law: E.Topham-355@kent.ac.uk with a short paragraph about yourself and what you think you can contribute to the project and gain from being part of the Critical Law TV Team.
