At the end of March Professor Rosemary Hunter, Head of Kent Law School, attended the King’s Counsel (KC) appointments ceremony to receive her honorary award for outstanding contributions to the law outside of the courts.
The ceremony was presided by the Lord Chancellor, The Rt Hon Dominic Raab MP, at Westminster Hall where Prof. Hunter was confirmed as new Honorary KC, alongside eight other legal figures and 95 barristers and solicitors as new KC in England and Wales.
Dominic Raab said in his speech: “You, your families, friends, and colleagues, should rightly be very proud.
Steeped in tradition going back to the 16th Century, the KC title has long been a hallmark of excellence.
It acknowledges your experience, expertise and eminence in your particular fields of law.
And so, today’s ceremony cements your status as ambassadors for a legal system envied across the world.”
Professor Hunter is a leading Family Justice scholar. She is recognised for her work in the important field of domestic abuse, which has helped to shape the law in this area.
Speaking about her contribution to the field of domestic abuse, Rosemary said: “My work has promoted understanding, support and safe outcomes for survivors of domestic abuse and their children in the family courts. There is still a long way to go, but the issue is now firmly on the agenda of the family justice system.”
