The first regular interactive weekly Clinic meeting of the term on Tuesday enabled law students to gain a genuine insight into Law Clinic life and highlighted many ways in which students can become involved:
- Over the course of the last week, there have been 60 telephone enquiries involving issues related to immigration, family, employment and housing law
- 52 law students have begun casework for assessed credits as part of their year-long Clinical Option Module and so the Clinic has been busy taking on new cases. One of these new cases is being supervised by Clinic Solicitor Vivien Gambling – it involves a client who is being sued by their litigious landlord – clinic student George Hill is currently drawing up a defense and counter claim
- Clinic Solicitor Philippa Bruce is planning an informal discussion of the issues raised in the film The Children Act at 4pm on Weds 10 October in the Clinic for any interested students
- Student Chair of the Clinic’s Immigration and Asylum Team, Jen, highlighted plans for asylum moots, guest speakers and more throughout the coming year
- Clinic students Kieran and Annie, and Clinic Director Graham Tegg, introduced a new case which the Clinic is going to be taking on. It concerns a wedding but, more importantly, will explore the fundamental principle of contract law – this offers an ideal opportunity for first year law students to see how the law is applied to real people in very real situations!
- Chair of the Clinic’s Criminal Justice Project (CJP), Stacey Anastasia, reported on a visit made to HM Prison Elmley with Clinic Solicitor Hannah Uglow.
Come along to next Tuesday’s weekly meeting in the Clinic at 2pm to learn more about the Law Clinic Student Committee, a vital element of Law Clinic life!
