Postgraduate law students analysed Canterbury City Council’s response to local environmental issues during the second seminar in Kent Law School’s Environmental Law Seminar Series.
Guest speakers Emily Shirley and Geoff Meaden spoke on the topic of ‘Thinking Globally and Acting Locally’. Emily and Geoff, both environmental campaigners and members of the Green Party, identified environmental issues within the Canterbury community and discussed the ways in which people can get involved in protecting their local environment. A question and answer session followed the seminar presentation and attendees enjoyed an opportunity to chat with the guest speakers over a cup of coffee.
The seminar, held on 2 November, was organised by Kent LLM students Chanutporn Ratanachan, Nichawan Pratoomwong and Josephine Adeyele (pictured above with the speakers).
The Environmental Law Seminar Series was launched last month with a seminar focusing on policing environmental protection. The next seminar, with guest speaker Liz Hiester, is entitled ‘Environmental Law and Legal Practice’ and will be held on Monday 16 November at 6pm in the Law School’s Postgraduate Teaching Room.
The series has been designed specifically for students with an interest in the environmental law modules offered within the School’s one-year Master’s in Law programme, the Kent LLM.
Kent LLM students can graduate with a specialism in either Environmental Law or International Environmental Law by (i) opting to study at least three (out of six) modules from those associated with the specialism of their choice and by (ii) focusing the topic of their dissertation on their chosen specialism.
More information about environmental law research, events and academics at Kent can be found on the Environmental Law mini-site. More information about studying the Kent LLM (and choosing your specialism) can be found on our postgraduate pages.
