Local lawyers invited to share experiences of working in magistrate’s court on 3 November

Two local lawyers will share their experiences of working in a magistrate’s court on Tuesday 3 November as part of the Criminal Justice Project’s guest speaker programme.

Defence Solicitor Ruth Alabaster and Rachael Laughland, from the Crown Prosecution Service, have been invited to talk to students by the Criminal Justice Project (CJP) team based at Kent Law Clinic.

Kent Law Clinic Solicitor Lucy Welsh said: ‘Both Rachael and Ruth are Kent graduates who work in Kent and regularly appear to represent their parties’ interests in court. They will talk about what a “typical” day entails, particularly interesting parts of their work and anything that they didn’t anticipate when they first started their jobs. There will also be time for a Q&A.’

All are welcome to attend the talk which will take place at 6.30pm in the Brian Simpson Room on the ground floor of the Eliot Extension building.

The CJP’s guest speaker programme was launched last year with the aim of provoking lively discussion amongst staff and students. The CJP is a staff and student initiative in the Kent Law Clinic, comprising a supervising clinic solicitor, solicitor’s assistant, student directors and a number of team leaders each having a team of students.
