Different times may call for different measures but now that the initial adjustment of home working has settled, L&OD are working to bring more development opportunities to staff.

As I am sure most of you would assume, currently face-to-face delivery of staff development training courses and workshops remain suspended, at this stage up to and including Friday 29 May.

However, during this time, the L&OD team is developing and enhancing our online training options, as well setting in place online support and/or directing you to external resources which we think you might find useful at this time.

From our previously planned programme of activities, we have;

  • Progressed delivering our third 2020 cohort of Horizons (a 3 workshop programme for staff aspiring to become managers in the future), using Teams for interactive webinar sessions
  • Run our Promoting Inclusivity workshop (also via webinar on Teams) as a follow-up to our March induction event
  • Started our next cohort of Pathways (our highly successful career development programme) using a blended delivery of webinars, self-development and mentoring
  • Continued sessions for our ‘in-progress’ cohort of Foundations of Management (an in depth management training programme) to ensure learning in this key area is supported

Plus continued bespoke work with Schools and Department and of course support for many initiatives set in train in response to Covid-19, such as the COPE Framework developed to support staff and managers who are collectively trying to find ways to adjust and cope with our new and challenging environment.

We will continue to follow the University’s guidance, along with Government, NHS and Public Health England advice when shaping our immediate development offer and provide you with regular updates on what development opportunities are available for you to access or take part in, to try and reduce the impact of our circumstances on learning and development.

We ask that you continue to look after your own wellbeing and the wellbeing of those around you – reach out for support if and when you need it. Please also keep up to date with University’s coronavirus information online.

And we look forward to engaging with you in the near future, be it virtually or hopefully back in the workplace as soon as is deemed safe.
