KRIMSON news

The University adopted the KRIMSON system to manage external research and innovation grants in 2014. It has been a complex process, and we are incredibly grateful to all those staff who have helped us in developing it, using it, and providing feedback on it. As a result we have seen real achievements and benefits arising from it: it has replaced the paper-based approval system, – providing the University with a more transparent and accessible application system with reduced processing timescales.

However, the complex adoption has not been made easier by the fact that the supplier of the software did not deliver in some areas, and as a result was unable to provide some of the functionality we had contracted the supplier to deliver. This includes integration with KAR and the possibility of a ‘mini-CV’ with details of an individual’s publications and funding track record. In addition, the reporting function has been put on hold until we can identify an appropriate system to provide this. This is after careful consideration by the Steering Group.

In the meantime we will continue to use KRIMSON as the approval system for external research and innovation grants, and will seek to further improve the functionality and usability of the system. If you have any questions on this development, or in using the system more generally, don’t hesitate to drop me a line.

KRIMSON new release v5.5.20 – 26th September 2016

The KRIMSON system will be upgraded in early hours on Monday morning, on the 26th September. The system might be interrupted during this time. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.

The upgrade is essential in preparation of the integration between KAR and KRIMSON. It will also enable an integration between KRIMSON and external sources such as ORCID and Scopus. No changes have been applied to the grant application module and therefore the system should appear the same to the end users.

The grant application module remains still the only module that is currently live.

‘Set up Application’ section in KRIMSON

Researchers will be required to add a Director of Research within the ‘Set Up Application’ section in KRIMSON.  Once the application is moved to the next status, i.e. ‘Open’ or ‘RS/KIE update’ all selected DoRs will be notified by email.

Director of Research is to help and support applicants in applying for external funding. As such, it helps to keep them informed of applications within their School as they develop.

NEW User Roles in KRIMSON

It was agreed, at the last SG meeting, that some user roles need revising. At the moment all School and University approvers need to switch to a ‘Researcher’ user role, which is confusing. Two new user roles, a ‘School approver’ and ‘University approver’ has been set up and will be assigned to the relevant people. This role will allow you to approve (single or multi school) applications, which you were linked to by the Principal Investigator.
