Temporary relocation of our tennis courts

The Kent Indoor Tennis and Events Arena (KITEA), where our four indoor tennis courts are located, will be hosting a conference in July.

To facilitate the setup of the conference and equipment and the take down of the event afterwards, KITEA will be unavailable for any physical activities from Monday 15 July to Thursday 8 August.

You will not be able to book KITEA for tennis sessions or recreational games between 15 July and 8 August. During this closure, we are really pleased to provide outdoor tennis courts on our Astro pitch, just next to KITEA.

What this means for you

We are aiming to keep disruption to a minimum. There will be changes to the locations for tennis sessions, but the process for booking these and the costs, if any, will remain the same.

  • Court bookings – the way you book tennis courts remains the same through your online account. We have three outdoor tennis courts, which are available to book for recreational games.
  • ALL Active Staff Tennis sessions – the sessions on Tuesday and Thursday each week will be moved over to the outdoor tennis courts.
  • Tennis Group Coaching and Private Lessons – these sessions will not be available to book during the closure. Group Coaching and Private Lessons will be available once KITEA reopens.
  • Astro pitch bookings – we are unable to provide Astro pitch bookings for sports other than tennis during the KITEA closure. These will become available once KITEA reopens.
  • 3G and 3GX bookings – existing bookings and recreational bookings on both the 3G and 3GX pitch are unaffected by the temporary closure of KITEA.
  • Parking – there may be some limitations to parking at The Pavilion during the conference, between 25 to 28 July. There are car parks available across campus within walking distance of The Pavilion. Please check out the Transport webpages for more information.

Outdoor court guidance

As the tennis courts have been set up outside, we would advise you to bring a water bottle and sun hat for your session, particularly in hot and sunny weather. There are water bottle filling stations outside The Pavilion.

Please make sure you wear trainers with no plastic or metal studs, as these can damage the Astro pitch surface.

We appreciate your patience while we host this exciting conference. If you have any questions about the temporary closure of KITEA, please contact sportsenquiries@kent.ac.uk.
