Kent Sport supports Kent Cycling Festival

Kent Sport at the University of Kent is pleased to be supporting the British Heart Foundation’s Kent Cycling Festival, which starts at the Pavilion at the Canterbury campus on 13 September 2015.

Whether you are a complete cycling novice or the next Bradley Wiggins, this event offers an exciting challenge in aid of a good cause and will be a terrific way to see the local countryside. Why not ask family and friends to join you for this amazing cycling experience?

The University campus provides and excellent starting point for the route as cyclists will be able to enjoy refreshments at the Pavilion Café Bar including a barbeque. There will be a live band from 12-2pm and from 3pm-5pm. Free parking and changing facilities will also be available at the Pavilion.

Hayley Reynolds, Regional Event Organiser at the British Heart Foundation says, “The University of Kent offers an ideal venue for this significant event, with its proximity to Canterbury and its beautiful green campus with modern sports facilities and easy access to the countryside. We are anticipating that hundreds of cyclist will be participating and it is helpful to have the support of Kent Sport with their experience of hosting events of this scale. We hope to raise £75,000 with this event, which will be an enormous help assisting us in progressing our life-saving research.”

Graham Holmes, Director of Sport at Kent, says, “We are very keen to support and encourage cycling on campus and beyond as it is a very beneficial activity that many people can enjoy alongside other sports. The Kent Cycling Festival offers a great opportunity to experience a cycling challenge locally, while Kent Sport progresses plans for a cycle hub on campus that will offer a range of exciting activities and services suitable for the recreational cyclist to elite sports people.”

Cyclists may wish to return for a cycling event around Easter 2016 when we will see the launch of the new cycle hub facility. Details will be available at www.kent.ac.uk/sports as plans progress.
