ICFL Cup Final

On Wednesday 25 May, Rutherford Raiders and Medway FC lined up for a repeat of the ICFL Cup Final 2016. Last time round Rutherford Raiders won the cup final completing the league and cup double for the 2015/16 season.

This season both Rutherford Raiders and Medway FC have dominated the Inter College Football League finishing 1st and 2nd respectively with only a point separating the two. Their nearest competitor, Keynes Athletic were a further 12 points off the pace.

Medway FC took an early lead in the final with Tommaso Fiore scoring after only 5 minutes. Joel Grecres, doubled Medway’s lead just a couple of minutes later. 2-0 to Medway FC with only 6 minutes on the clock.

Rutherford managed to regroup and hold out to half time after Medway’s early goals. However Medway struck again early in the 2nd half with Kiyanu Pillay scoring after just 10 minutes, slotting the ball through the goal keepers legs after some great skill.

Medway had the chance to extend their lead even further when they were awarded a penalty just 5 mins after scoring their 3rd. Man of the match, Kiyanu stepped up to take the penalty and slotted the ball into the corner, however was asked to take the penalty again as Medway FC players encroached on the area before the penalty was taken.

On his second attempt the goal keeper guessed the right way and made a good save to his left.

The final score finished 3-0 to Medway FC.

Congratulations to Medway for their cup victory and Rutherford Raiders for making the final and winning the league competition.
