Disability Tennis Morning at University of Kent

We were delighted to be able to support the Whitstable Lawn Tennis Club’s Act It Adults session at our Indoor Tennis Centre recently, providing a high-quality facility and tailored tennis activities for the attending group. The group usually play on outdoor public courts by the beach in Tankerton where they have to brave the elements, so it was fantastic to be able to support the group in our all-weather tennis facility.

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) award winning programme provides a weekly group for people with different disabilities to become active and develop a love for tennis. Vanessa Oakes organises the group with Inclusive Sport and it’s clear to see Vanessa’s passion and energy when she’s on court. She creates a really kind, professional relationships with each individual and it’s clear to see how grateful they are for the time she gives and the opportunity to be active through tennis.

The players took part in a team challenge event with us which involved a group warm up and cool down and activities using adapted Sensory equipment, modified tennis balls, racquets, and targets to make a fun session with everyone receiving a mystery gift and certificate (thank you LTA!).

Feedback from the players mostly centred around the quality of our beautiful Indoor Tennis Centre being like something they’ve only seen before on TV. They particularly loved being protected from the elements, having been exposed to wind, rain, and worse all winter!

We’ve invited the group back again following this good start and look forward to session 2 in June. We will continue supporting this wonderful community group – especially when they most need it during those winter months!
