Vice-Chancellor’s Cup Highlights: It’s A Knockout

The Vice Chancellor’s Cup 2024/25 kicked off with a bang this year as teams embraced a lively It’s a Knockout event designed to test communication, trust, and teamwork in the most entertaining way possible. Over two action-packed lunchtimes on 19th and 21st November, 15 teams took on eight fun yet challenging tasks, each with just three minutes to showcase their skills.

Day One Highlights: Tuesday, 19 November

The first day set the stage with four dynamic challenges: Hockey Shot, Hoop it Up, Equipment Charades, and Hidden Gems.

Challenge 1: Hockey Shot

In this challenge, teams showcased their control and precision as they dribbled a hockey ball through a tricky obstacle course before taking their shot at the goal. The Infomaniacs excelled in this test of skill, claiming an early lead with their impressive focus and accuracy.

Challenge 2: Hoop it Up

A test of creativity and coordination, teams were tasked with transporting hoops from one area to another using only two pieces of rope. The Infomaniacs continued to shine with their teamwork, but the Flu Fighters also delivered a strong performance to keep the competition close.

Challenge 3: Equipment Charades

Silent communication took the spotlight in this task, as team members guided each other through actions without speaking. Liquorice All Sports dazzled with their non-verbal coordination, closely followed by the creatively collaborative Return of the MAC.

Challenge 4: Hidden Gems

In a race against the clock, teams scrambled to find concealed “gems” scattered around a course. Marlowe’s Marauders claimed victory in this round, with the Flu Fighters and Infomaniacs tying for second.

Day Two Highlights: Thursday, 21 November

The competition intensified with the remaining four challenges: Pair Match, Precious Cargo, Ball Maze, and Minefield.

 Challenge 1: Pair Match

This memory-based challenge put teams brains to the test. U Brunch of Kent delivered a stellar performance, impressing with their quick thinking and coordination.

Challenge 2: Precious Cargo

Teams worked together to transport delicate items without dropping them. Infomaniacs showcased their dexterity, while Camping Sporting Exploits secured second with a close finish.

Challenge 3: Ball Maze.

Navigating a giant maze with a ball required precision and teamwork. The Flu Fighters and Liquorice All Sports showed their skills, but Infomaniacs continued their dominant streak.

Challenge 4: Minefield

In this strategic finale, teams navigated a tricky “minefield” course. Marlowe’s Marauders triumphed, edging out Liquorice All Sports for first place.

Final Scores and Results

After two days of incredible effort, the Infomaniacs emerged as overall champions, Marlowe’s Marauders followed closely, while the sofa sitters and DoNATS taking third place.

What’s Next?

With 13 more events to go in the 2024/25 Vice Chancellor’s Cup, the excitement is far from over! The next challenge is Pickleball, set to take place on 3 December 2024.
