Hosted with Kent Sport, The Ultimate Karate Fighters Boot Camp will be held at the University’s Canterbury campus from 31 July to 2 August 2015. The event is led by nine times World and European Karate Champion and University of Kent alumni, Wayne Otto OBE (5th dan).
The Boot Camp is the second annual event for elite athletes with experience at national or international level competitions. Participants will learn fitness and conditioning, training drills and routines, attacking and defensive techniques, fighting scenarios and strategies and more.
The elite coaching team includes Elisa Au Fonseca from the USA; Alex Biamonti from France; Raik Tietze from Norway/Germany; Greg Francis from England; Albert Forsythe from England; and Tarek Amin from Egypt/Austria.
Otto co-founded the Karate Club at the University of Kent in 1989. He led them to glory as national champions in the British University Sports Federation (BUSF) in 1991. In 1997, he became Britain’s most successful karate exponent, gaining his ninth World Championship title at the World Cup Championships in Manila.
Mr Otto said: ‘I thoroughly enjoyed my experience while studying at Kent and am thrilled to be returning to provide the Ultimate Karate Fighters Boot Camp in partnership with the University and to make use of the excellent facilities at Kent Sport.’
Wayne Otto is currently the National Coach for Norway and an international coach, in demand by national teams and karate federations around the world. His achievements in karate are recognised in the 2001 edition of the World Guinness Book of Records, where he is cited as having won the most World Championships for a male competitor. In the same year, he was awarded an OBE for services to the sport of karate.
