PhiGS Colloquium

The PhiGS colloquium is our annual graduate conference, held in the summer, with the first one in 2018. It is intended not only a showcase for research work in Kent, but also as a way to foster discussion with researchers elsewhere working in the same general areas as us. Since the work at Kent covers so many different areas – indeed, it is a distinct advantage that we are not constrained by a single ‘school’ – the opportunites for cross-pollination are manifold, and the colloquium seeks to facilitate such fruitful encounters.

The first colloquium was quite small, with talks only from Kent researchers, but the scope was expanded somewhat in the second, with presenters from further afield. Unfortunately, what with one thing and another, there was no colloquium in 2020, but it rose from the ashes in 2021, bigger and stronger with many talks over two days, all held online. These were on diverse topics and came from researchers around the world. The Sixth colloquium – to be held in Spring 2024 – it is hoped, will build on this foundation.
