On Friday 10 May the winners of the Kent Teacher of the Year Awards were revealed at Ashford International Hotel.
The Kent Teacher of the Year Awards were introduced to recognise the expertise and dedication of outstanding teachers in our community. The awards celebrate all members of staff including primary, secondary, new qualified teachers as well as volunteers and caretakers.
As a key partner, the University of Kent was represented by Kent Business School’s (KBS) Director of Education, Dr Zita Stone. On the night Zita awarded several of the prizes to winners in the Business category. This included the Overall Sunset Award to Business Studies teacher, Michael Beacher from the Meopham School.
‘Representing KBS and the University at this event was a great experience. Hearing about the various ways schools engage with their pupils to enhance their interest in learning and thus improve impact in the form of student achievement is both impressive and inspirational. The high competitive rate of submitted cases for the consideration of the award is a testament that schools are creative and clearly successful in their teaching approaches. In higher education we can and want to build on this great work to develop critical thinkers who are culturally aware, resilient and ultimately as graduates employable.’ – Dr Zita Stone
Award winner, Michael Beacher will be coming to KBS on 23 October 2019 with a group of Year 13 students for the KBS Experience Day. The day will include:
- a focus group and workshop with the KBS Student Support team
- lunch with KBS Admission Lead and Director of Studies
- an invitation to a keynote visiting speaker talk at the Business Start Up event
