Kent Business School’s Isabel Rechberg and Jawad Syed have won the BAM2011 Best Paper Award.
We are delighted to report that Kent Business School PhD student Isabel Rechberg and Jawad Syed, Senior Lecturer in Human Resources Management, have won the Best Paper Award in the Knowledge and Learning track at the BAM2011 Best Papers Awards, held by the British Academy of Management (BAM).
The Academy has been dedicated to representing and developing the community of management academics, since being founded in 1986, and runs two successful journals, an annual conference and a range of training and development events and programmes that support the development of academics worldwide.
Co-authors Isabel and Jawad’s joint Paper, entitled “Appropriation or Participation of the Individual in the Knowledge Management debate: a Philosophical Prospective” reviews the philosophical foundations of Knowledge Management. It examines that there is a tendency towards knowledge management tasks being assigned to the individual by the management (‘appropriation’) and that knowledge management tasks are meant to be determined jointly by the individual and the management (‘participation’).The Paper highlights the paradox between management and knowledge and between organisational and individual knowledge.
“This award has made us humble and proud that our work is valued by a wider academic and international community. As a PhD student at the School, Isabel has set a great example for other research students that dedication, hard-work and commitment to one’s own thesis do not go unrewarded” reports Jawad, who advises that he and Isabel are hoping to get their joint Paper published in a high quality journal in the field of Human Resource Management or Knowledge Management.
Kent Business School would like to congratulate both Isabel and Jawad on their award and outstanding research accomplishment, which goes a long way to continued promotion of research excellence at the School and wish them every success in their future venture.
