With the start of the new academic year, our students are getting ready to Pitch their business and marketing ideas to two very different organisations.
Last week, students were invited to attend presentations from the Dean of Rochester Cathedral, The Very Revd Dr Mark Beach, and from Guy Tresnan, Sales Director at Chapel Down, for an overview of their operations and to be briefed on their challenge.
Rochester Cathedral
Rochester Cathedral is the second oldest Cathedral in the country, established in AD 604, but is often overshadowed by Canterbury Cathedral. Beyond its premise as a place of worship, the Cathedral wishes to be seen as an outward facing and ‘open-minded’ space to foster shared public life and enhance communities.
The challenge for Kent Business School students will be to devise a coherent marketing and communication to support the strategic aims of Rochester Cathedral of better leveraging the building and its place in the community.
Chapel Down
Chapel Down is England’s leading wine producer, creating world class, interesting, distinctive and award-winning wines and beers. The company is rapidly establishing itself as a world class premium wine brand and is gaining national and international recognition.
The challenge for students is to assist Chapel Down take increased market share in a highly competitive market by providing suggestions that raise brand awareness and motivate customers to consider Chapel Down as an alternative to major brands.
The Pitch It! challenges is will be held in December 2013 with a panel of representatives from both organisations and from the Business School.
So the students now have just seven weeks to analyse, innovate, find solutions and present options for the companies to consider…we’ll let you know how they got on in a few weeks’ time!
Pitch it! is a great way to get new ideas, both highly innovative and practical for organisations to consider back at base. In the past, business pitches have looked at branding, market segmentation analysis, media & communication plans. Broader management themes for consideration include strategy, finance and human resources.
