Rukshana is a recent graduate of the Strategic Project Management programme. She recently reflected on her Master’s journey and we’ve asked if we could share her experience.
‘Exactly one year ago, I took one of the biggest steps of my life. The night before my flight, I barely slept. My heart was full of mixed emotions, excitement for a new beginning, sadness at leaving my loved ones, and fear of stepping into the unknown. My family stayed awake with me until late, and my little nephew even brought ice cream at midnight to make our last evening together a little sweeter. That memory still warms me.’
‘When I reached IGI Airport in Delhi, my excitement quickly turned into tears as I said goodbye to my family. Walking into the airport felt like walking away from everything familiar. But life has a way of balancing sadness with blessings, my first-ever business class flight made the journey unexpectedly comforting.’
The past year has been nothing short of transformative. The people I’ve met, my university, my friends, my professors, my new employers, and my colleagues, each has played a unique role in shaping my journey. Their support, guidance, and encouragement have made this year not only easier but also deeply meaningful.
‘Pursuing my MSc in Strategic Project Management has been more than an academic chapter, it has been a transformative experience. From engaging with inspiring professors, learning alongside brilliant peers, to embracing the beauty of UK weather (which many may complain about but I secretly love the winter), this journey has expanded my perspective in ways I will cherish forever.’
‘Of course, there were challenges: the pressure of assignments, the reality of finances, the silence of lonely evenings. But these moments didn’t break me; they built resilience, strength, and determination. I made it a priority to live this year to the fullest, whether by serving as a student or course rep, working as a student ambassador or contributing as part of the KSU Parliament team. I embraced every opportunity to experience Kent life, from the Summer Ball to free movie nights and even the lively parties that added so much colour and joy to this journey. I always knew the year would pass quickly, and it truly did, but I’m grateful that I embraced it all and enjoyed every moment to the fullest.’
“Some of my best moments have been about more than lectures and assignments, they’ve been about discovering resilience during tough times, celebrating small wins, and learning to thrive independently with courage and determination.”
‘When I began my MSc in Strategic Project Management, I carried with me not just ambition but hope, responsibility, and dreams bigger than circumstances. Today, looking back, I see growth that goes beyond lectures and deadlines. I see confidence, resilience, and quiet wins that shaped me as a person. As I look ahead, my vision is to achieve great things, explore new opportunities, grow every day, and live a fulfilling, adventurous life.’
‘A heartfelt thank you to my family, friends, and professors for their constant support and above all, to myself, for not giving up in any situation, for staying courageous, and for believing in this path. Here’s to growth, resilience, and the exciting chapters yet to be written.
To the ambassador programme, thank you for giving me the chance to work alongside my studies. It taught me how to manage time, earn a living, and meet people from diverse walks of life, all while staying rooted in my goals.
To the scholarship that supported my studies, you weren’t just financial aid. You were a door that allowed me to step into a new world, with dignity and focus.
As I share this glimpse into my student life, I do so with deep gratitude and the hope that it encourages and inspires other prospective students who are dreaming of studying in the UK.
Uni Kent gave me more than a degree. It gave me perspective, purpose, and memories for a lifetime.’
