Fletcher Fanning is studying Management with a Year in Industry. He is taking his placement year at a Kent-based fostering agency as a Marketing and Recruitment Coordinator.
He says: ‘Learning about working conditions and Fairtrade in my A-level Business Studies was what led me into an interest in ethics in business.
‘That is how I came to study Management at Kent, the course included modules in ethics that really stood out to me as interesting and relevant.’
Fletcher also took a Year in Industry as part of his course, and by second year started researching options.
He says: ‘The Employability Team warned me that you had to take an average of 30 applications before you land a placement, so I was ready to persevere to find the right one for me.
‘My dad told me about a company called Homefinding and Fostering who were looking for an intern. I knew I wanted a placement that felt like I was I was doing something worthwhile, so I decided to apply. It seemed the perfect fit for me.’
Fletcher secured a year-long role as Marketing and Recruitment Coordinator for the agency, based in Maidstone, Kent.
He says: ‘It is a small team – just 12 of us – so the role is incredibly varied and not just confined to marketing. My day-to-day roles centres around digital media, social media, and print media but I do get involved in many areas like tech support.’
Fletcher is looking forward to his final year of study, armed with a taster of working life that he can apply to his course.
‘The work experience this year has given me great attitude and I think it’s helped me connect the dots from theory to practice.’
