This Week: The AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards

Wishing Sarah Martin and Ashwanth Gnanavelu, former MBA students from Kent Business School, good luck ahead of the AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards 2021.

Two years have passed since University of Kent alumni, Sarah Martin, began her business journey opening her first business in Topsham in 2018, followed by her second shop in 2019. Sarah’s successful business helps towards the environment by removing the use of unnecessary plastics and inviting customers to reuse empty containers they may have at home. Sarah’s achievements have led her to become the only female in her category to be in the running for the MBA Entrepreneur of the Year award. The MBA Entrepreneur of the Year award honours the accomplishments of successful alumni in innovative world-class business strategy, with Sarah’s achievements reflected in her nomination in opening the first zero waste store in Exeter called Nourish Zero Waste.

Sarah Martin said:

It’s an incredible privilege to have reached the finals of this prestigious global award. It also highlights that sustainable business models are being recognised as the way forward which is very encouraging for our planet.

With the success of Sarah receiving the MBA Entrepreneur of the Year nomination, Ashwanth Gnanavelu has also been nominated for the MBA Leadership award. Ashwanth’s roots from rural India has manifested into his work as he is currently a founding member of DesiCrew, which works towards creating IT-based jobs in his hometown. The MBA Leadership award honours alumni from AMBA-accredited Business Schools who have been making an impact in the business world.

Ashwanth said:

I am honoured and humbled to be shortlisted for the AMBA Leadership Award 2020. All credit to my Alma Mater at Kent. I have very fond memories of my MBA at the Kent Business School. The entire ecosystem was super-energetic, the staff were supportive, and my class was super fun to work with. Kent played a key role in shaping my career. Even after all these years, I am still on touch with my Professors and classmates from Kent.

The AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards is an annual award celebration where leading lights from the global business education community collaborate together. The award commemorates excellence and commends achievement among Business Schools, students, graduates, suppliers and employers that share AMBA & BGA’s values of ambition, impact and integrity.

Congratulations to Sarah and Ashwanth on these highly regarded nominations. We wish you both the best of luck in the final on Friday 29 January at the AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards 2021!
