Senior Lecturer in Accounting, Dr Abby Efua Hilson, has published a report for www.planetgold.org titled Access to Finance — Options for Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining.
This report reviews past experiences with delivering financial and allied services to artisanal and small-scale mining and makes recommendations regarding best practices and potential ways forward in improving access to finance based on this experience.
The planetGOLD mission is to make small-scale gold mining safer, cleaner, and more profitable. The programme works in partnership with governments, the private sector, and ASGM communities in nine countries to significantly improve the production practices and work environment of artisanal and small-scale miners.
Dr Hilson is part of the Accounting Group at Kent Business School and conducts research on the accounting implications of the environmental and social impacts of the oil and gas and mining industries in developing economies
