University of Kent in Medway Hosts their First TEDx Talk

For the first time ever at the University of Kent Medway campus, students came together for a night of captivating talks from carefully selected TEDx speakers around the theme CTRL ALT DEL.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. This theme invited the audience to reset their current ways of thinking to align with the new world we live in, and importantly make way for fresh perspectives.

The event was organised by the newly founded TEDx Society on the Medway Campus with the full support and funding by GK Unions, it took place at The Deep End with complimentary canapés and welcome drinks provided.

CTRL ALT DLT tackled a diverse mix of topics in restructuring the way we currently think, the topics of the speakers’ talks included hacking your own fears, the new era of data privacy, solving the increasing housing crisis and finding your true purpose.

Speakers included:

  • Sloan Sheridan-Williams, Celebrity Life Coach
  • Anna Clare Harper, Property Investment Strategist
  • Ali Reza Shahrestani, Chief Marketing Officer
  • Sadiq Hussain – Speaker and Podcast Host

Three 3 pre-recorded talks on the topics of mental health, the science behind procrastination and how to focus your mind on things you truly care about were also shown.

Attendees also had the opportunity to network with the speakers and like-minded individuals after the event.

“Curating the very first TEDx event at the Medway campus for the University of Kent has been an absolute pleasure, and we are so pleased with how successful the event was. The atmosphere around campus during the build-up was really special as everyone was excited to have a globally respected brand present at our student union! I hope that other students follow in these footsteps and continue to curate TEDxUniversityofKentMedway events as it is such a rewarding and positive experience, both for the event organisers but also for the local student community who get to enjoy the event.” – Phoebe Thompson, Event Organiser and Business and Management student.

With thanks to sponsors: The Deep End, Brave Little Tank, Student House Gillingham, Mima’s Studio, the University of Kent Student Success Grant and the Student Project Grant.
