Kent Business School (KBS) was represented at the BEIS-ERC LSBS Showcase Event on Thursday 19 September 2019.
The Showcase Event was hosted by Warwick Business School, held at the Shard in London.
The event was jointly sponsored by the Enterprise Research Centre (ERC) and the Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) who have funded work utilising the Longitudinal Small Business Survey (LSBS). This was an opportunity for a number of researchers working on the data to present their findings.
Dr Catherine Robinson (KBS) presented a paper entitled, ‘The Role of Innovation in Small Business Performance – A regional perspective’. Based on a joint paper with Professor Marian Garcia, Dr Guihan Ko and Professor Jeremy Howells, they test the importance of City-Regional characteristics in terms of agglomeration, innovation spending, skills access and business dynamics on productivity. Using multilevel analysis, they find that SME performance is influenced by the City Regional context but are not able to identify strong evidence of the channels.
