GWO 2020 Writing Workshop

Making your Mark: Surviving the Writing and Publishing Process

A joint event held by the University of Kent, Brunel University and University of Essex will be held on June 23 2020

As part of the GWO2020 conference Patricia Lewis (University of Kent), Ruth Simpson (Brunel University) and Melissa Tyler (University of Essex) are running a pre-conference writing and publishing workshop for PhD students in the final year of study and ECRs on 23 June. To attend the workshop you must register for the conference.

This ‘hands-on’ workshop starts with small group discussion and feedback on individual’s work in progress (no more than 3 per group).  This is followed by an activity session that covers key areas of a paper’s development. The workshop ends with a discussion, from an editorial perspective, of writing as a situated, embodied experience.

30 places are available for the workshop which we will allocate on a first-come-first-served basis. To register an interest, please email Ruth Simpson, r.simpson@brunel.ac.uk . To confirm your place, you must send by 23 May 2020 a copy of the paper you wish to bring to the workshop for discussion (also to r.simpson@brunel.ac.uk). This paper will be allocated to a member of our ‘expert panel’ who will give you feedback on the day and lead the small-group discussion.

As part of the workshop is organised around discussion and feedback on individual work, we will not be able to confirm your place until your paper has been received. We do not, however, expect a finished version and anticipate that this will be ‘work-in-progress’.

Accommodation for the night of the 23 June will be available at the normal conference rate. When booking the conference please indicate that you will need accommodation on the 23 June as well as the 24 and 25 June
