KBS PhD Conference 2019

Kent Business School (KBS) successfully delivered its first internal PhD Conference on Friday 14 June 2019.

The KBS PhD Conference was a great success with a total of 50 PhD students in attendance. Each student was required to present their research either via an academic poster or oral presentation.

The research posters created by the first-year students were certainly a talking point during the lunch and refreshment breaks, whereby the panel and audience were invited to vote on their most highly rated poster. The awards were presented by Dr Kathy Kotiadis.

Congratulations to Arifa Syed who impressed the panel with her poster titled ‘Unpacking the Doctor Bride Phenomenon and its Impacts on the Work Experiences of South Asian Muslim Female Doctors in Pakistan and UK: A Comparative Study Using the Lens of Post Feminism’ and Idorenyin Etokakpan who was awarded the people’s choice with his poster titled ‘Employer Branding in HEI: Impact on Talent Retention’.

The second and third-year students presented their research in front of an expert panel with the support of their fellow students and supervisors in the audience. Despite the nerves before taking the stage, all students performed exceptionally well under the pressure and the standard of presentations was extremely high. There were several tricky questions directed from the panel and audience, which were handled by the students with relative ease.

The Best Second Year Presentation was awarded to Frank Donkor for his presentation on ‘The Impact of Supply Chain Integration on Supply Chain Sustainability and the moderating role of Environmental Uncertainty’. The Best Third Year Presentation was awarded to Andromachi Papachristopoulou for her presentation on ‘Economic Policy Uncertainty and the Short and Long Term Regulatory Liquidity Needs of US Bank Holding Companies’.

Congratulations once again to the KBS PhD Conference award winners and well done to all the students who took part. The glass of Pimms at the end of the day was definitely well deserved! We look forward to hosting next year’s conference.
