JOB SUMMARY Responsible for supporting our training and education programme.  This includes working with our skills centres, developing training and workshop material and coordinating our £1.8m Employer Ownership of Skills Pilot.
Background to the role Denne was the first construction company in the UK to establish a skills centre accredited by the NationalSkillsAcademy for Construction.  We now operate 5 skills centres on various locations in the South East delivering an employment & skills programme.  This programme includes supporting people into employment and apprentices, working with schools and supporting training of the existing site-based workforce.We have recently been awarded funding under the Government’s Employer Ownership of Skills programme.  This funding will allow Denne to significantly expand and develop our employment & skills programme.

The Skills Coordinator will report to Nicholas Fowler – Denne Business Improvement Manager
JOB CONTENT – The job encompasses the following duties:
Coordination of our Employer Ownership of Skills programme covering employment & apprenticeships, education engagement, and skills development of the existing workforce.
Coordination of our education programme with schools
Developing training and workshop material
Producing reports and preparing material for auditResearching and providing information on employment issues

POST  Skills & Training Coordinator
The attributes that will be necessary for the Candidate to have in order to undertake the role of Skills & Training Coordinator are set out below.  These have been categorised as essential and desirable:  These attributes should be addressed in the application form and will form the basis of an interview if it were offered in connection with this position.

Essential attributes

    • Interpersonal and communication skills – an ability to get on well with other people, work as part of a team, comfortable in communicating verbally with groups and individuals, and preparing and presenting reports.
    • Knowledge of Human Resource management and employment law – to research and offer guidance to other members of the Employment & Skills team working on our construction projects
    • Planning and organisational skills – to adopt an organised and systematic approach with the ability to be flexible, to plan and schedule work and to schedule of evidence and documentation.
    • Problem solving – an ability to gather and assimilate information needed to solve problems, assess risks, take ownership and resolve issues quickly and effectively
    • Key board and basic IT literacy – an ability to enter data on a database, use word processing, spreadsheet and email software and prepare performance reports.
    • Liaison and coordination skills – an ability to liaise with individuals and organisations, and coordinate activities.
  • Assertiveness – an ability to understand other peoples’ point of view and to clearly explain what is required in terms actions and outcomes.
  • Upholding values – an ability and understanding of the need to uphold values of the Company and the need for people to be treated with respect and dignity.
  • Desirable attributes

    • Knowledge and experience of vocational training – an understanding of skills development at secondary schools, further & higher education and work-based learning.
    • Knowledge and experience of agencies working in the skills and employment sector –  these include ConstructionSkills, Connexions, Education Business Partnerships etc.
