Kent Business School holds Interview Skills Workshop

Year in Industry placement students at the interview skills workshop

Sixty six stage 2 Year in Industry placement students attended the Interview Skills Workshop on Tuesday 29 November 2011 to prepare them for the challenges involved at this crucial stage of securing the right work placement.

Presentations were made to the students by IBM, Cummins, PWC, Hercules and a former director of SCA. The presentations addressed such issues as interview skills. This was followed by a discussion forum where the students were able to ask questions and share concerns.

Following the workshop, each student had a one-to-one interview in a Kent Business School office with employees from the above companies. Feedback from these managers and HR professionals indicated that they were impressed with the quality and calibre of our students. One student was even asked to contact her interviewer directly after the event with regard to applying for an actual placement in that company.

The event was a complete success and is now firmly embedded in the Stage 2 Year in Industry Placement Workshop series.

Workshop participant Alicia Whiteford-Mulkern commented “This workshop was invaluable in providing insights directly from recruiters as to what they are looking for and what their expectations are as well as experiencing what an interview is like in practice. As a result I feel more prepared and will be able to approach interviews with more confidence in future.”

The Industry Placement workshop series also provides guidance on all aspects of the placement application process and employability skills.
