Kent Business School attends Cummins Power Generation Kent 2011 Careers Fair

Kent Business School were excited to be part of a ‘Careers Fair’ day at Cummins Power Generation, aimed at improving their internal career development and to encourage staff training and development within the organisation. We were on hand to provide expert knowledge and support as well as to promote our range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Cummins Power Generation, based in Ramsgate, Kent, provides a key global manufacturing facility of power generators for the organisation. They employ around 700 staff locally and held their annual Careers Fair on 27th October, 2011 to encourage their employees to look within the organisation for their own career development and training.

Employees at Cummins were keen to talk to Kent Business School staff on our stand about their future learning and development, training and career needs. Key areas of interest in the day was the popular Kent MBA, especially so at this event as it can be studied both full time over one year,  or part time over two years to fit in with employees’ careers and work commitments. Kent Business School Student Implant Scheme also featured strongly, as well as our postgraduate masters in Business and Finance.

“I found it useful to speak to various functional managers; several were interested in providing feedback to us regarding requirements of their employee skills and development.  Project Managers showed real interest in being involved with ‘guest speaking’ at the School and in taking part in our student placement workshop activities” said Angela Ransley, Head of Student Placements and Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the School who attended the event, along with other members of Kent Business School staff.  “I would like to thank Chris Cox at Cummins, who works with the team where our students are placed. He has offered to liaise internally with key personnel to provide specific feedback on the ‘needs requirements’ and skills development for our placement students. Additionally, I found it really beneficial having Alex present, one of our placement students who’d previously worked at Cummins – she obviously made an excellent impression across a wide network within the company!”

Chris Cox, 6 Sigma Master Black Belt at Cummins Power Generation who supported the event on the day said ‘The Cummins Power Generation Kent 2011 Careers Fair was a fantastic day-long event with diverse participation of employees and local universities and colleges. Our main objectives were met by connecting hiring managers with potential candidates. Importantly the Fair provided employees an opportunity to discuss their personal development, further education and to raise their career path awareness’.

We are glad this opportunity proved a success for both Cummins and Kent Business School and we look forward to future collaborations and closer working relations with Cummins that will ultimately provide the highest level of support for our students in their professional work placements on their Year In Industry.
