WorldFest at the University is from 24 February until 7 March and celebrates cultural diversity across our campuses and beyond.

WorldFest Book Recommendations: A Literary Journey Across Cultures

In celebration of WorldFest, the University community has curated a list of book recommendations that offer insights into various cultures and experiences. These selections, nominated by students and staff, provide a literary avenue to explore the world from different perspectives. Highlights from the list include:

  • The decagon house murders by Yukito Ayatsuji
  • My brilliant friend by Eleanna Ferrante
  • Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
  • The reader by Bernhard Schlink
  • The unbearable lightness of being by Milan Kundera
  • Gravel heart by Abdulrazak Gurnah

The books span various genres and regions, offering  an opportunity to delve into stories that reflect the complexities and beauties of different cultures.

Why not watch a film from another country and culture to celebrate WorldFest 2025. We have 100s of DVDs in our Video Collection in the Library Café from classics to the latest award-winning titles.

We have handpicked a selection for you to browse and view.

Don’t have a DVD player? Then you can watch then in the Library on one of our viewing stations or borrow a DVD player for 48 hours to have a film night of your own.
