The University’s current Remote Desktop Gateway Service, which enables remote access to computers on-campus will be replaced by a new Specialist Remote Access service for staff and researchers who require it for their work in July 2024.

What will happen in July 2024?

You won’t be able to access the current Remote Desktop Gateway Service after 28 July 2024.

The majority of University staff will be able to access corporate systems, administrative tools and IT services from off-campus using alternative access routes – check our Work from home guide for secure and supported access methods.

As part of ongoing University cyber security practices we will be reviewing and standardising the range of remote access methods currently in use. Please check to ensure you’re using our recommended access routes.

Specialist Remote Access service

Our Specialist Remote Access Service will specifically support staff and researchers working on big data analysis projects and requiring high performance computing for computationally intensive research.

You’ll be able to request access, which will be granted based on research / business need, from Monday 8 July. Send us your request via our Specialist Remote Access Request form and we’ll get back to you within our normal response times.
