No files.kent.ac.uk access 06:00 – 08:00 on Tuesday 2 July

Student looking at two PC screens

Between 06:00 – 08:00 on Tuesday 2 July

You won’t be able to access any files stored in your individual home folder or departmental shared folders located on files.kent.ac.uk.

Don’t log on to University PCs or laptops at this time because your profile will not load correctly affecting how your desktop displays and works.

If you are impacted by this work we suggest moving any files you might need to your University of Kent OneDrive, before Tuesday 2 July.

OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint won’t be affected, and are available without VPN.

Why we need to interrupt access

We need to carry out essential maintenance to the disks and virtual machines which house files.kent to migrate them to new resilient storage.

Why it’s happening now

We’re sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. We’ve chosen this time because it’s quieter in the Summer vacation when fewer staff and students access networked files compared to term time.
