In these quick yet powerful sessions you can learn how to improve your dissertation research, build powerful search strings, and make use of AI research tools.  Our library sessions are open to all undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation students. 

Finding journal articles for your dissertation

Monday 3rd March 10.00 – 10.45 Including 15 mins q+a

The library team will take you through the basics of searching for journal articles and improving your search results for dissertations. 

This session will include: 

  • Creating successful search strings 
  • Searching article databases 
  • Advanced search techniques (boolean searching, subject filters, proximity searching)

Getting the most out of Google Scholar for dissertation

Thursday 6th March 10.00 – 10.45 Including 15 mins q+a

This session will include 

  • Advanced search techniques 
  • Finding more focused results 
  • Avoiding paywalls with LibKey Nomad

Introducing academic AI tools for dissertation 

Friday 7th March 10.00 – 10.45 Including 15 mins q+a

The library team will introduce you to academic AI sources such as Scopus AI, Research Rabbit, and Elicit to support scoping searches and references for dissertation.  

This session will include 

  • Citation mapping 
  • Using Ai to build search strings 
  • Summarising topics and articles
