The #ShareMyThesis competition challenges PhD students past and present to summarise why your PhD research is important in 140 characters or less. The competition is open worldwide and to entries from all subject areas.

To enter tweet why your PhD research is important using the hashtag #ShareMyThesis. Your tweet should convey why your research is important (not just what your research is about). Make sure your tweet is self-contained and understandable to a non-specialist. Tweets must be tweeted by 9 February 2015 at 10.00.

INTERACT! British Society of Aesthetics Postgraduate Conference

We are pleased to announce the first British Society of Aesthetics Postgraduate Conference: Interact! This conference is intended to provide a supportive and stimulating environment for postgraduate students to share and discuss their work on any area of philosophical aesthetics.

Professor Dominic McIver Lopes, University of British Columbia

Professor Elisabeth Schellekens, University of Uppsala / Durham University

The conference will include a session on How to Publish and Career Advice contributed by the Keynote speakers and two senior faculty members of the History & Philosophy of Art department at the University of Kent.

Postgraduate Research Festival 2015

22nd June, Grimond Building | For postgraduates and academic staff

The 5th annual festival will be held in the Grimond Building on Monday 22nd June 2015 and is open to academic staff and all postgraduates. The festival is a great opportunity for postgraduates, both taught and research, to showcase their research to fellow students and staff through academic posters and 3-minute research presentations.

The day will include:

  • Interesting and stimulating academic talks
  • Prize for best poster in each Faculty
  • Prize for best 3-minute research presentation
  • Engaging Student-led Panel discussions [New*]
  • Drinks reception and awards presentation

Attention – 1st year PhD students!

New dates for the Spring term have now been added for the ‘Kickstart your PhD: Guidance, Skills and the Researcher Development Assessment’ workshop.

This workshop explores the PhD journey and will focus on what researchers need to make the most of their doctoral programme. During the workshop students will be directed to resources for getting started with their research projects. The workshop will explore the responsibilities of a postgraduate researcher, the supervisory relationship, progression monitoring and skills development.

Attendance at this workshop is compulsory for all 1st year PhD students. All new PhD students should have attended this workshop and completed the online Researcher Development Assessment before their probation review.

Tuesday 17th March, 9-1pm
